Internship

We welcome applications from university students and recent graduates expressing an interest in undertaking an internship at the Australian Embassy, Rome. Internships can last between 4 and 12 weeks and will involve working at the Embassy a minimum of 10-15 hours per week. There will be an initial trial period of 4 weeks.

Internships allow university students with an interest in Australia’s international relations to gain an insight into the work of the Embassy, and particularly of our Public Diplomacy, Political and Economic branch.

The internship will primarily focus on assisting with managing the Embassy’s social media. Tasks will also involve assisting in organising public diplomacy events, doing research, drafting reports on political and economic developments in Italy, responding to inquiries from Australian departments and from the public.

Internships are unpaid, however interns will receive a small reimbursement for daily expenses. Travel costs, travel and living arrangements as well as travel insurance are the responsibility of the intern.  Internships are open to all nationalities but we require applicants to have a high level of English and at least an intermediate level of Italian.

To apply for an internship at the Australian Embassy Rome, please email your C.V. and the completed application form to rome.vacancy@dfat.gov.au ensuring your name is included in the subject field.

Please note that, should your application be successful, you will be required to provide the following documents:

  • Copy of ID
  • Copy of current visa (if applicable)
  • Proof of date of entry to Italy (if applicable – stamped passport page)
  • Codice fiscale -  issued from the Agenzia delle Entrate
  • Police Check for Australian or Foreign interns
  • Certificato del Casellario Giudiziale (Police Check for Italians or for those who have been living in Italy for more than 6 months)
  • Certificato dei Carichi Pendenti (Police Check for Italians or for those who have been living in Italy for more than 6 months)
  • Presentation letter from the University (for current students only)
  • Italian bank account details

We thank all applicants for their interest; however please note that only those applicants short-listed for a telephone-interview will be contacted.

The deadline for applications closes on 24 February 2017.  We will accept applications after this time for consideration in our next recruitment round later in the year.
